Experience
FRENCH MARKETS; A stay in France would not be complete without the experience of visiting a weekly market. Why is it that they can make someting that you can see in many other countries worldwide - just so different. The sounds, the colours, the aromas all add to the overall pleasure of being there, even if you happen to have a rainy day. Some excellent bargains to be had, and don't be afraid to ask for "dernier prix" if it's somthing you really want.
FEST NOZ; This literally means 'festival of the night' in Breton. Starting often quite early, they generally can go on well into the night, but by the time you have had a few drinks and dances you can hardly care. There is nearly always live traditional music, but often lifted by the inclusion of modern instruments. A great way to while away several hours and meet the warm and friendly local people.
VIDE GRENIERS; The translation of this means 'empty attic,' so as you would guess it's an opportunity to get rid of those odd few things you will never use again, and make a bit of money in the process. You may also see 'puces' advertised, which is the French for flea, so as you would guess is a Flea Market. These are held at regular times and locations throughout the whole of Brittany. Perhaps you may be just lucky enough to stumble across a missing Lautrec or Monet.
FESTIVALS & FETES; These take place at weekends throughout the summer in the many surrounding villages and towns. They are very often attached to some part of the heritage of the Brittany, such as the dress for the Fête des Brodeuses that takes place in Pont-l'Abbé, or what they may eat as in fête des crêpes. There is a particularly large music festival that takes place in Quimper in July, which has people from all around the world playing Breton and Celtic music.
NATURAL BEAUTY; The Glénan archipelago is to be found about 18km off Fouesnant, which is about 30 mins from Le Guib. This area of outstanding natural beauty provides absolutely white sandy beaches and incredibly clear waters that would make the Caribbean proud. An excellent place to make your first venture into snorkeling or sign up with the international diving school that is based there.

If you are visiting France for the first time then you will probably try and fit everything in to a few short weeks. The problem is, is that there is so much going on all through the year, then it's likely you could miss a lot. Fortunately Le Guib is available all year round, and just a short trip from the UK to even enjoy a long weekend.
