BY SEA; The
closest ferry port is at Roscoff in the north
of Finistere, and around a 2 hour journey
from there to Le Guib. Regular daily sailings
with Brittany Ferries
from Plymouth to Roscoff and also Cork to
Roscoff. The two main ships used on these
crossings are the Pont Aven which was launched
in 2004, and the Pont l'Abbe which was launched
in 2006. Both ships will provide a pleasurable
start to your holiday. For those wishing to
make a longer journey with stops on the way
to see more of France, then Brittany
Ferries also has regular
sailings to St Malo and Cherbourg. |
 |
BY AIR; There
are several daily flights from the UK to Brest
Airport, with an average journey time of only
45 minutes. The main operators are Flybe,
Ryanair and AerArran,
and also Air France.
The journey from Brest, Guipavas is then about
another hour to get to Le Guib., although
it is mainly a dual-carriageway all the way.
Lorient Airport to the east is about the same
travelling time, and for those looking for
something very close, Pluguffan is about 15
minutes away, although the main regular flights
there go via Paris. |
 |
BY CAR; For those
that like driving? France is made for you.
Good quality roads, far less traffic, and
a regular supply of places to stop along the
way. If you came via the Channel Tunnel? It's
about a 9 hours journey in total, depending
on how fast you drive of course. But beware,
the French Police are not especially forgiving
of speeding offenders, and quite rightly so. |
 |
BY RAIL;
Not probably the first thing most people think
of a as mode of transport these days, but
travelling on a TGV will change all that.
The TGV (train à grande vitesse) really
does live up to its name. Regular services
run throughout France to all parts of Brittany,
and there is a main station in Quimper which
is about a 20 minute drive from Le Guib. You
can catch the Eurostar in
London and be in Brittany before you know
it. |
 |
BY FOOT OR BY BIKE;
Get on any of the previous modes of transport,
go as far as you need and then walk or cycle
the rest. Brittany boast a huge network of
cross-country paths and routes, like the 'customs
trails' which literally go the entire way
around the region. These were once used by
customs officers for tracking down smugglers
that had made their way across the channel,
but now provide outstanding views of the Breton
coastline. |

The long rugged coastline and the vast bays
with their golden sand beaches, are only a
short journey from most parts of the UK.
This most westward part of France, with its
ancient Breton language always seem slightly
out of step, yet maintains an almost mystical
presence. According to statistics France is
the most visited country in the whole world,
and why not? |
